Director: David Ayer
Writer: David Ayer
Stars: Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis
The excitement that came with this movie was outstanding, from great casting choices of Will Smith as Dead shot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, very mild batman appearances and of course the Joker played by Jared Leto. There was huge buzz for this movie.
Admittedly one of the first few flaws in the movie is that the Joker did not take center stage as we would expect, especially after an immortalized performance by the previous Joker Heath Ledger, Jared Letos performance was highly anticipated and obviously went through alot of criticism and critiquing. The movie in its attempt to make the characters first impression truly jaw dropping does not develop the characters for obvious budget and time reasons.
I loved the movie.
DC movies and stories are generally darker than marvel films. thematically running this darker twist through the story line. Even the production is influenced as most of this movie is set in a dark apocalyptic city ravaged by a psychotic ‘immortal’ witch with the desire to obliterate humanity. A group of criminals are chosen for a very important and special mission which means to basically save the day. Make no mistake The suicide squad is not a group of heroes, they don’t save lives. They are selfish self propagating villains who live for self gratification brought together by a common goal. Not to die.
Forgetting critics who compare it to the lighter version of DC *hint hint* Marvel Universe and with only two famous characters to bank the story line on, this movie was a success. Despite the dark theme, Harley Quinn is as comically insane as ever literally bringing color and corny humor to this band of criminals.
Its IMDb rating is 6.7 which really reflects the bias against this phenomenal movie. One amongst many DC films that will light up your screen over the next few year. Little TV rating is 7.8 and a must watch for fans of fictional movies.
